Veterans ride YRT free in honour of Warriors’ Day

The Regional Municipality of York will honour Canadian war veterans this Warriors' Day by offering free YRT service to war veterans and immediate family members of deceased veterans on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
Veterans and one companion are free to travel all day, system-wide without charge. Veterans can identify themselves to YRT and On-Request operators by showing any of the following items: uniforms, medals, berets or blazers.

Come say hello to YRT and other York Region Public Works staff at these community events.
Learn more about transit services and road improvement projects in your community, and pick up some swag while you're at there. YRT system maps, York Region cycling maps and foldable paper buses will also be available.

Participate in the YRT Bike Auction on August 20

Support the United Way and get some new wheels!
The YRT Bike Auction will be held online on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in support of the United Way.
This is an annual auction of unclaimed bicycles left at YRT stop and terminal bike racks. Images of the bicycles and a brief description of their condition will be available for viewing on the auction site.

This will make it easier for you to find answers, even outside of Live Chat operating hours. Fare changes are coming July 1

In November 2024, York Regional Council approved the 2025 budget which includes a 3% transit fare increase effective on July 1, 2025. The fare increase will help cover rising operating costs due to high inflation and help support the cost of delivering service to the Region. Over the next several years, transit will continue to make investments to improve service for travellers.
