YRT/Viva offers security, customer assistance and fare enforcement services through the YRT/Viva Transit Enforcement and Security team.
Consisting of Special Constables and Fare Media Inspectors, Transit Enforcement and Security travels the YRT/Viva system to monitor the
correct use of fares and compliance with Viva's proof-of-payment system. They also monitor behaviour on YRT/Viva vehicles and properties to ensure the safety, security and comfort of all customers. Special Constables have the powers of a Peace Officer to enforce the Criminal Code of Canada and other related federal statutes on YRT/Viva and affiliated properties within the Regional Municipality of York and the City of Toronto.
Customers without valid fares or engaged in inappropriate or illegal activities may be subject to a fine, criminal charge or arrest.

Violations, fines and warnings
Transit Enforcement and Security staff make random checks to ensure the correct use of fares and compliance with Viva's proof-of-payment system. Customers without valid fares may be subject to a fine or criminal charge as set out by The Regional Municipality of York bylaws and the Criminal Code of Canada.

How to report a crime, safety/security concern or fare machine issue
If this is an emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately.
Transit Enforcement and Security may be reached 24-7.
During business hours, report issues relating to crime, safety or security by calling the YRT/Viva Contact Centre at 1-866-MOVE-YRT (668-3978). Select option "4" to speak with a Customer Service Representative, who will report your concern to Transit Enforcement. YRT/Viva Contact Centre hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends/holidays. After business hours, call 1-866-MOVE-YRT (668-3978) and select option "6".
CCTV (closed-circuit television)
YRT/Viva vehicles and properties are outfitted with security cameras. Our security camera program is meant to deter vandalism and provide evidence of incidents that occur on our bus fleet and in our terminals
Video footage is not archived and is only retrieved from a bus or terminal if requested from police or YRT/Viva officials as evidence to a particular event. Only Special Constables have the authority to retrieve video footage from a bus or terminal under the Enforcement Supervisor's direction.
