YRT is going paperless July 1, 2020

Beginning July 1, 2020, YRT will be paperless and no longer accept paper fare media. Travellers will have the option to purchase their YRT fare using a PRESTO card or through their smartphones with the mobile payment app, YRT Pay, available for free in the App Store or Google Play. Cash fares will still be available.

Beginning November 18, 2019, YRT will no longer sell paper fare media, including 10-pack tickets, monthly passes and the GTA Weekly pass. YRT will not provide refunds or transfer the value of tickets to PRESTO.

Why is YRT eliminating paper tickets and passes?

YRT continued to sell paper fare media to accommodate travellers using TTC in York Region, since PRESTO was not accepted on TTC buses. Since August 26, 2019, customers travelling on TTC routes in York Region can now pay their YRT fare using a PRESTO card.

How do I pay for my bus fare?

Customers can pay their YRT fare using a PRESTO card or through their smartphones with the mobile payment app, YRT Pay, available for free in the App Store or Google Play. Cash fares will still be available.

Will monthly passes still be available?

Yes. Customers can load a YRT monthly pass on a PRESTO card to use for unlimited travel within the calendar month. Customers can also purchase and use a monthly pass through the YRT Pay app.

Will GTA Weekly passes still be available?

Can I still pay cash fare?

Yes; however, we encourage customers to take advantage of discounted fares offered through a PRESTO card and the YRT Pay app.

Will there be any changes made to the two-hour transfer period?
No. Customers will still be able to travel on any YRT route in any direction for two hours with just one fare.
What do I do with my old tickets?

Paper tickets can be used until the end of service on June 30, 2020. Beginning July 1, 2020, paper tickets will no longer be accepted.

We encourage customers to discontinue purchasing paper tickets as soon as possible, to make the transition easier.

YRT will not provide refunds or transfer the value of tickets to PRESTO.

How do I get a PRESTO card?

Customers can purchase a PRESTO card online at prestocard.ca, or in-person at any Shoppers Drug Mart location and at select YRT PRESTO fare agents. Visit our Where To Buy page to find the nearest PRESTO fare agent near you.
