Due to COVID-19 and a significant decrease in transit ridership, YRT will be reducing service on most routes until further notice. In addition, customers must board at the middle or rear doors, and stand back from the red line on the bus.

The YRT trip planner and real-time app are unavailable until further notice. Third-party real-time apps will also not reflect updated schedules. Please call us at 1-866-668-3978 for assistance.

Service reductions effective Monday, March 23

YRT will be temporarily reducing service until further notice. Please see below for a list of routes with service reductions.

COVID-19 remains a rapidly changing and evolving situation and each day brings new information and new ways of conducting business. With the closure of many schools, municipal and public spaces and more York Region residents working from home, we are temporarily adjusting service levels to meet current customer demands.

We know many York Region residents continue to rely on YRT, and we remain committed to delivering the exceptional service residents have come to expect. We will continue to monitor ridership patterns and make additional service adjustments as required.

Please continue to refer to this page for the latest information. You can also follow us on Twitter using #RiderAlert for real-time service updates.

Please note that the YRT trip planner and real-time app are unavailable until further notice. Third-party real-time apps will also not reflect updated schedules.

Please board at middle or rear doors and stand back from the red line, effective Monday, March 23

Graphic of a YRT bus with boarding instructions for passengers and ramp access, with an icon of a red line separating a passenger and the bus driver

In an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and in continued support of provincial action, customers must board the bus at the middle or rear doors. This applies to all YRT and Viva routes. Please pay your fare before boarding where possible. If you cannot tap or purchase a ticket before boarding, please pay when you depart the bus at the station or terminal.

In addition, passengers are asked to please stand back from the red line on the bus, as we all respect physical distancing (two metres). If you would like to speak with the driver, please speak loudly.

These changes are to allow additional opportunities for people to demonstrate physical distancing with other riders and transit operators.

Thank you again for your patience and ongoing cooperation.
