YRT's Mobility On-Request (MOR) service allows you to request transit when and where you need it, within select service areas.

Starting Monday, July 13, YRT will be offering an additional pilot service for seniors during the months of July and August, within existing MOR service areas.

The service will be available to seniors 65 years or older who may be feeling hesitant taking regular public transit during this time. Mobility On-Request uses smaller vehicles like sedans, minivans and small buses to transport customers. Vehicles are thoroughly cleaned, drivers are equipped with proper PPE and there is a limit to the number of passengers allowed in the vehicles at once.

If you are a senior travelling within our service areas, simply call us during the hours listed below and we will pick you up and take you to your desired location within 5 km of your home. This can be a grocery store, doctor’s office, pharmacy or any other address. Please read below for more details and booking instructions.

How it works:

  • To book a ride during service hours, call us at 1-866-744-1119. Wait for the date and time to be spoken, then press ‘0-0-0’ to speak with a Trip Reservationist
  • Please call us on the same day you would like to travel, starting at 7 a.m.
  • Let us know if you are travelling with a mobility device, such as a walker or wheelchair
  • A YRT-marked vehicle will pick you up and take you directly from your home to your selected location. Drivers will escort you door-to-door
  • Trips must be within 5 km of your starting point (e.g. home). If you are unsure, please give us a call at 1-866-744-1119 and we will help you

 


Cost:

Senior fare is $2.40 with PRESTO or the YRT Pay app. Cash fare is $4.25 (exact change only).

 


COVID-19 traveller safety:

For the safety of our drivers and travellers, all customers are screened by our Contact Centre staff with COVID-19 questions before booking a trip.

Our vehicles are thoroughly cleaned three times a day. Drivers are also equipped with face masks and gloves.

Please remember to wear a non-medical face mask or covering. This is now mandatory on public transit.

 


Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why can’t I book my trip the day before? 
We have designed this as an on-request service. To avoid costly trip cancellations or no shows, we send trips to drivers in real-time rather than pre-booking.
Can I travel with a companion? 
To help with physical distancing, we encourage you to book for only one person. If you need to travel with someone, please let us know at the time of booking and we will check to see if a larger vehicle is available. 
What should I do if I am going to be late for my pickup? 
Please call us to let us know as soon as possible. 
Is there a waiting period after I book my ride? 
After you have booked your trip, a dispatcher will call you with a confirmed pickup time. Times are subject to availability. You may be offered a pickup time up to 60 minutes from the time requested to allow the vehicle to complete other trips.  
Will I be sharing a ride with other travellers? 
In smaller vehicles like a sedan, we book only one passenger at a time. If we book a trip using a small bus, we only allow a maximum of three to four passengers at a time.
Do I need to be a registered Paratransit client to use the service? 
No. This is available to all seniors 65 years or older. 
Why is this only offered in certain areas? 
We are currently offering this service within existing Mobility On-Request service areas. There are no current plans to extend this to other areas; however, we welcome any feedback or suggestions. Please call us at 1-866-744-1119 or fill out our Feedback Form.
