YRT's On-Request 65+ service provides local transportation for seniors within 5 kilometres of home.

YRT offers an on-request transit service for seniors aged 65 and older throughout York Region. This door-to-door service provides transportation for local travel needs within 5 kilometres of your home using accessible smaller vehicles, including sedans, minivans and small buses.

Whether you're heading to a grocery store, pharmacy, medical appointment or community program, simply call during service hours to book a ride. We'll pick you up at home, take you to your destination, and bring you back.

Eligibility: Travellers must be 65 years or older to use this service.

Travelling with a guest: Effective September 14, 2026, senior customers using On-Request 65+ service may only travel with a support person who has a valid Support Person Assistance Card or another person who is aged 65 or older. Vehicle capacity is limited, and reserving space for eligible customers helps us serve more seniors in the community.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring a guest?

This service is available exclusively to York Region seniors aged 65 and older.

To help ensure this service remains available to the seniors who rely on it, customers wishing to travel with a guest must have a Support Person Assistance Card for that guest, or the guest must be aged 65 or older. Vehicle capacity is limited, and reserving space for eligible customers helps us serve more seniors in the community.

The 65+ Service provides door-to-door transportation for local travel needs within 5 kilometres of a customer's home, such as grocery shopping, pharmacy visits, medical appointments and community programs.

Need additional travel options? YRT offers a range of services to meet different travel needs:

  • Travelling with a support person: If you need to be accompanied by a support person, you can apply for a Support Person Assistance Card. The card permits a support person to travel on YRT with the eligible customer (cardholder) at no additional cost. Visit the Support Person Assistance Card page to learn more

Travelling with family members or friends:

  • Consider using On-Request service, where available, for flexible travel within your community. Visit the On-Request page to learn more
    • You may also consider using YRT bus service. Visit the YRT Trip Planner to plan your journey or call us at 1-866-668-3978
  • For those who need a little extra support when travelling: Customers who are unable to use regular transit for all or part of their trip may be eligible for Mobility On-Request Paratransit: York Region's door-to-door, shared ride, accessible public transit service for people with disabilities. To use this service, you must meet specific eligibility criteria. Visit the Registration and Eligibility page to learn more
Can I bring shopping bags or boxes?

Yes, riders are welcome to bring a maximum of four shopping bags on the trip. There is a bag limit in place so that we can offer everyone a comfortable shared journey with adequate space. Please ensure each shopping bag weighs less than 10 pounds.

Our vehicles cannot accommodate big boxed items. Small boxes that are similar in size to shopping bags are fine. The same 10-pound maximum weight applies.

The total number of bags or small boxes cannot exceed four items.

Do I need to be a registered Paratransit client to use the service?
No. This is available to all seniors 65 years or older.

Is there a waiting period after I book my ride?

After you have booked your trip, a dispatcher will call you with a confirmed pickup time. Times are subject to availability. You may be offered a pickup time up to 60 minutes from the time requested to allow the vehicle to complete other trips.

What should I do if I am going to be late for my pickup?

Please call us to let us know as soon as possible.

Why can’t I book my trip the day before?

We have designed this as an on-request service. To avoid costly trip cancellations or no shows, we send trips to drivers in real-time rather than pre-booking.

For trips to a vaccination clinic, you may book up to two days prior to your scheduled appointment.
