The York Region Public Wireless Internet Access Service ("Wi-Fi") is owned, operated and administered by The Regional Municipality of York (the "Region"). You will not be directed to the Region's Public Wi-Fi unless you have first read and agree to these Terms and Conditions by clicking on the "I AGREE" button at the end of this page. Your use of the Wi-Fi is subject to federal, provincial and municipal laws regulating Internet use, including but not limited to the provisions of the Criminal Code of Canada regarding: obscenity, child pornography, criminal harassment, cyberbullying, intimidation, uttering threats, identity fraud, defamatory libel and the incitement of hate. The use of the Region's Public Wi-Fi for illegal purposes by You is strictly prohibited, and may result in the termination of your use of the Wi-Fi by the Region, expulsion from the Regional facility and civil and/or criminal proceedings being commenced against You. Regulatory penalties, fines and/or civil liability may also result from Your use of the Wi-Fi. You agree to abide by all applicable federal, provincial and provincial laws pertaining to privacy rights, intellectual property (including copyright), and defamation while using the Wi-Fi. You also agree not to send unsolicited commercial e-mails using the Wi-Fi as set out in detail in Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation, as may be amended from time to time. http://fightspam.gc.ca/eic/site/030.nsf/eng/home.

The Region reserves the right to revoke any Wi-Fi privileges extended to You at any time, without prior notice, in the event that You breach any of these Terms and Conditions. Your use of the Wi-Fi shall be discontinued immediately upon any such revocation by the Region. You acknowledge and agree that:

  • You may not, at any time, use the Region's Wi-Fi for any illegal purposes, including but not limited to downloading, viewing or transmitting any online content that contravenes the provisions of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • The Internet is not a secured medium. The Wi-Fi's access points are unsecured connections to the Internet.
  • The Wi-Fi is not error free, uninterrupted, and may not necessarily meet Your requirements.
  • The Region is not responsible for data transmitted by or on behalf of You over the Wi-Fi or for the loss or corruption of data transmitted over the Wi-Fi. The Region is not responsible or liable for any lost or corrupted data.
  • Third parties may be able to obtain information about Your activities when using the Region's Wi-Fi. The Region is not responsible or liable for data interception by a third party.
  • The Region is not responsible or liable for the security and privacy of Your on-line transactions. The Wi-Fi is provided strictly "as is" and Your use of the Wi-Fi is entirely at Your own risk.
  • You are solely responsible for the protection of Your device(s) from viruses, spyware and spam.
  • The Region is not responsible or liable for third party content and has no obligation to monitor any third party content.
  • Damage, modification or misuse of the Wi-Fi is strictly prohibited.
  • Interfering with the designated use of computers or the network, and subverting or modifying any security device or software installed by the Region on the Wi-Fi is strictly prohibited.
  • The Region is not responsible or liable for the safety of Your device(s), or for Your device(s) configurations.
  • The Region's staff is not able to provide technical assistance to You.
  • Printing is not available from the Region's Wi-Fi.
