Mobile Wallet

With PRESTO Mobile wallet, you can tap your phone or smartwatch to pay for transit!

With PRESTO Mobile Wallet you can experience the convenience of paying for transit using your smartphone or smartwatch, and make changes including loading funds to your card instantly, from anywhere.

This payment option is available on York Region Transit , GO Transit, UP Express, Brampton Transit, Burlington Transit, Durham Region Transit, Hamilton Street Railway, MiWay (in Mississauga), Oakville Transit and Toronto Transit Commission (TTC).

How to get started

There are three different ways to get a PRESTO card in Mobile Wallet:

  1. Use the PRESTO App to convert your physical PRESTO card to Mobile Wallet

  2. Use the PRESTO App to buy a new card in Mobile Wallet

  3. Get a new card directly from Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. It is an anonymous card until you register it using the PRESTO app

Visit PRESTO for more information and step-by-step instructions.

How to pay

Using PRESTO Mobile Wallet, you can tap your phone or smartwatch to pay for transit!

Apple Wallet

With Express Transit enabled on a PRESTO in Apple Wallet card you can tap to pay without waking up or unlocking your device, and without authenticating with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. Learn more about setting up Express Transit for PRESTO in Apple Wallet.

Google Wallet

Wake your phone up (usually by pressing the power button) and then tap like you would with a physical PRESTO card. In most cases, you do not need to unlock your device. You may need to change some Google Wallet settings to make sure that you don’t need to unlock your phone to pay. If you are using Google Wallet on a watch to pay your fare, unlock your watch, open the Google Wallet app and tap your watch.

When tapping your device on a PRESTO machine, PRESTO in Google Wallet will be the default payment method. Your device does need to have battery power in order to pay your fare with PRESTO in Google Wallet.

Note:

  • A single PRESTO Mobile Wallet card can only be active on one device at a time when using Google Wallet. The same card cannot be saved to a phone and a watch at the same time

  • When using Apple Wallet, you can have multiple active PRESTO cards but only one can be set to Express Mode which allows you to pay without waking or unlocking your device

  • Make sure you tap the same phone or watch to transfer as the one you used when you started your trip

  • An internet connection is not required to pay your fare when using PRESTO Mobile Wallet, but you will need an internet connection to load funds, transit passes, check card details, and convert your physical card. Your device must have sufficient battery when paying for transit (with the exception of Google Wallet)

  • If you have both a PRESTO card and a credit/debit card in your Mobile Wallet, your PRESTO card will be the default payment method the PRESTO device reads. If you would prefer to pay using your credit or debit card instead, you will need to open your Mobile Wallet App, select the card you want to pay with, and then hold your phone or watch to the PRESTO reader

Important:

  • The Apple Wallet App or Google Wallet App must be installed on your device and signed into a Mobile Wallet Account to use PRESTO in Mobile Wallet

  • Near Field Communication (NFC) must be turned on to pay your fare with PRESTO in Google Wallet and must have Android 7.0 or higher

  • An internet connection is not required to pay your fare when using PRESTO in Google Wallet, but you will need an internet connection to load funds, transit passes, check card details, and convert your physical card. Your device must have sufficient battery when paying for transit

  • If you have both a PRESTO card and a credit/debit card in your Google Wallet, your PRESTO card will be the default payment method the PRESTO device reads. If you would prefer to pay using your credit or debit card instead, you will need to open your Google Wallet App, select the card you want to pay with, and then hold your phone or watch to the PRESTO reader

One PRESTO card version only per deviceWhile you can have multiple cards in your PRESTO account, each card has its own balance and PRESTO card number; a PRESTO card with the same card number and balance cannot be on more than one device. You also can’t have more than one PRESTO in your Mobile Wallet on one device.

Fare prices

Travelling using PRESTO in your Mobile Wallet offers the same savings as using a physical PRESTO card. No matter which transit agency you use, you always pay a lower fare with PRESTO in Mobile Wallet.

Visit our Fare Chart page for PRESTO fare prices on YRT.

PRESTO in Mobile Wallet

PRESTO in Mobile Wallet supports the same fare types, products, and fare rules as the physical PRESTO card while offering you added benefits. You may decide PRESTO in a Mobile Wallet is right for you, especially if you want to enjoy the new card features:

  • Enjoy the convenience of paying for fare on transit with your smartphone or smartwatch

  • Use the PRESTO App to make changes including loading funds to your PRESTO in Mobile Wallet from anywhere. You don’t need to visit a PRESTO payment device. Changes go into effect instantly

  • Enjoy the same discounts. When you convert your physical PRESTO card to PRESTO in Mobile Wallet your fare type goes with you, and you can enjoy the added convenience of paying with a smartphone or smartwatch

  • Set up multiple fare types if you qualify for discounts. If your fare type is not already set on your PRESTO card, visit a participating Shoppers Drug Mart location or a YRT PRESTO fare agent

  • Access three months of transaction history in the PRESTO App. The Transit Usage Report will not be available

Once you convert to PRESTO Mobile Wallet, your physical PRESTO card will be cancelled and most details will be carried over, including fare type, balance, products, card settings, Autoload/Autorenew contracts, loyalty and more to PRESTO Mobile Wallet.

Your newly converted PRESTO in Mobile Wallet will still be registered to your PRESTO account and will be displayed on the PRESTO website, but can only be managed using the PRESTO App.

PRESTO in Mobile Wallet costs $0. There is no administration fee for PRESTO in Mobile Wallet.

Physical PRESTO Card

You may decide the physical PRESTO card remains your preferred card option especially if you:

  • Share your card with a family member or friend
  • Prefer to keep your payment cards separate from your smartphone or smartwatch
  • Prefer to visit a Customer Service Outlet or Self-Serve Reload Machines to make changes including to load funds to your PRESTO card. Changes can take up to 24 hours to go into effect
  • Need to access up to 24 months’ worth of transaction history and the Transit Usage Report for your records and tax purposes

The cost of a new physical PRESTO card is $4.

Transfers
PRESTO in Mobile Wallet supports the transit agency transfer windows to enable transfers within and between agencies. There's no need for paper transfers when using PRESTO in Mobile Wallet to pay your fare. After you tap your PRESTO in Mobile Wallet to transfer, a message will appear on the PRESTO device to indicate your transfer is accepted.
Proof of payment
If you are using PRESTO in Mobile Wallet, or credit and debit on your smart devices to tap and pay your fare, please ensure your device is sufficiently charged for travel. Tap with the same payment method for your entire journey, including fare inspection.
Overdraft protection
Registered physical PRESTO cards can go into overdraft. Registered PRESTO cards in Mobile Wallets cannot go into overdraft. With PRESTO Mobile Wallet, you can load funds instantly onto your PRESTO card from anywhere, which makes paying for transit easy and convenient and overdraft is not needed.
Transaction history
You will only be able to see three months of transaction history in the PRESTO App and will not be able to download a Transit Usage Report for your records and tax purposes.
Balance protection

Registering your PRESTO card is important. If you add your PRESTO card to your PRESTO account, you can transfer your card balance to a new card if it is ever lost or stolen. Click here to learn how to set up an account and register your card.
