YRT cares about your safety and security. Our dedicated Transit Enforcement and Security team offers security, customer assistance and fare enforcement services throughout the system. We also have technologies in place, such as security cameras and vehicle communication systems, to assist us in creating a safer environment for our customers.
If this is an emergency, call 911 immediately.
System safety and security is everyone's responsibility - see something, say something. Concerns can be reported to all on-street support staff (inspectors, enforcement, customer service representatives) including bus operators.
How to report a safety/security concern or other issues |
If this is an emergency, call 911 immediately. During business hours, report issues relating to safety or security by calling the YRT Contact Centre at 1-866-668-3978. Select option "4" to speak with a Customer Service Representative, who will report your concern to Transit Enforcement. YRT Contact Centre hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends/holidays. |
Travelling at Night – Request Stop |
If you ride York Region Transit after 9 p.m. (including TTC vehicles operating north of Steeles Avenue), you can get off between stops, closer to your destination. All you have to do is let your bus driver know where you wish to get off at least one stop ahead. To meet your request, your driver must be able to stop safely. For added safety and security, please exit at the front doors. Request Stop is not available on Viva To maintain frequent schedules, Viva vehicles can only stop at designated vivastations. |

YRT vehicles and properties are outfitted with security cameras. Our security camera program is meant to deter vandalism and provide evidence of incidents that occur on our bus fleet and in our terminals Video footage is not archived and is only retrieved from a bus or terminal if requested from police or YRT officials as evidence to a particular event. Only Special Constables have the authority to retrieve video footage from a bus or terminal under the Enforcement Supervisor's direction. |
