TTC to York Region

How the fare system works

PRESTO, credit or debit card payment on a PRESTO device:

  • When travelling northbound from Toronto to York Region – Tap and pay a TTC fare when you board the bus; tap again when you exit the front doors of the bus (you will not be charged another fare within the two-hour transfer window)
  • When travelling southbound from York Region to Toronto – Tap and pay a YRT fare when you board the bus; tap again when you exit the front doors of the bus (you will not be charged another fare within the two-hour transfer window)
  • When travelling within York Region – Pay a YRT fare when you board the bus
  • If you are taking YRT to the TTC subway and you tap your PRESTO card within the two-hour transfer window, you will not be charged another fare (the same applies for the return trip)

In order to receive a free transfer between YRT and TTC routes in Toronto or the TTC subway, you must use a PRESTO, credit or debit card payment on a PRESTO device. When transferring to another bus or transit vehicle, you must tap the card you originally used to pay to receive the free transfer and make your transfer valid. Transfers are valid for two hours of travel.

Cash or the PRESTO E-Tickets app:

  • When travelling northbound from Toronto to York Region – Pay a TTC fare when you board the bus and a YRT fare when you exit the front door of the bus
  • When travelling southbound from York Region to Toronto – Pay a YRT fare when you board the bus and a TTC fare when you exit the front door of the bus
  • When travelling within York Region – Pay a YRT fare when you board the bus
  • You can request a transfer from your driver if you are paying with exact cash; this transfer can be used on TTC routes operating in York Region (north of Steeles Avenue)
