YRT fare category definitions

1Adult: Ages 20 to 64 years.

2Youth: Ages 13 to 19 years.

3Senior: Ages 65+ years.

4Children: Ages six to 12 years. Children five years and under ride free.

5Proof of valid GO Transit fare required. Children (ages six to 12) must tap their PRESTO card on and off GO Transit to ride free on YRT.

Travelling on TTC in York Region:YRT customers can receive a free transfer when connecting to and from the TTC, using PRESTO, credit or debit payment on a PRESTO device. Customers must continue to pay YRT fare when travelling on TTC routes north of Steeles Avenue. Please continue to tap on and off the TTC bus if you are crossing the Steeles Avenue boundary; you will not be charged another fare if you are within the two hour transfer window. Visit the Transfers with TTC page to learn more. Fare payment on TTC routes south of Steeles Avenue and the TTC subway is not included in the Fare Capping Program.

What kind of proof of age is accepted from travellers 13 years of age and older?

Any government-issued identification (or photocopy) will be accepted.

Can more than one child 5 years of age and under ride for free with a fare paying adult?

Yes, all children 5 years of age and under can ride for free.

What proof of age do children 12 years of age and under need to show?

Proof of age is required upon request for all fare categories. Any government-issued identification (or photocopy) will be accepted. Children without valid ID may be asked to confirm their age with questions such as which school they are currently attending.

Are there any additional discounts for seniors? 

If you are 65 years or older, you may be eligible for the Government of Ontario's Seniors' Public Transit Tax Credit. To learn more, please visit the Ontario Seniors’ Public Transit Tax Credit page.

What fare is required for TTC routes operating in York Region (north of Steeles Avenue)? 

YRT fare is required for TTC routes operating north of Steeles Avenue.

YRT customers can receive a free transfer when connecting to and from the TTC, using PRESTO, credit or debit payment on a PRESTO device. Customers must continue to pay YRT fare when travelling on TTC routes north of Steeles Avenue. Please continue to tap on and off the TTC bus if you are crossing the Steeles Avenue boundary; you will not be charged another fare if you are within the two hour transfer window. Visit the Transfers with TTC page to learn more.

Does YRT accept PRESTO contactless payment (credit and debit)?

Yes, you can pay your YRT fare with credit card, debit card or card on your mobile wallet. Simple tap your card on a PRESTO device on the bus or at a vivastation or terminal. Full cash fare will be charged to your card.
