Veterans Ride Free on YRT for Remembrance Day

On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, York Region is pleased to offer free transit service throughout York Region Transit and On-Request to veterans and immediate family of a deceased veteran.

Veterans and one companion can ride free by identifying themselves to YRT and On-Request operators by showing a uniform, medal, beret or blazer. The immediate family of a deceased veteran may also ride free by carrying something that identifies their relationship, such as an identification card or service papers.

Celebrate YRT’s 25th Anniversary with us!

York Region Transit (YRT) is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2026 and we're starting the celebrations this fall by marking 20 years of Viva service in York Region!

To honour these milestones, we will be hosting special events, displays and contests throughout the year. The celebrations will begin this fall with YRT Viva Customer Appreciation events. Be sure to check back regularly for updates on upcoming events.

You can now add your PRESTO card to Apple Wallet

With PRESTO in Apple Wallet, you can tap to ride using your iPhone or Apple Watch!

Metrolinx is making it more convenient to choose transit by offering customers another way to pay their fare by tapping a digital version of the PRESTO card in Apple Wallet, on an iPhone or Apple Watch.

This new payment option is now available on York Region Transit (YRT), GO Transit, UP Express, Brampton Transit, Burlington Transit, Durham Region Transit, Hamilton Street Railway, MiWay (in Mississauga), Oakville...

Download the new YRT On-Request mobile app

Book a round trip between your home or any address and a preselected location in your service area using the new YRT On-Request App, available on the App Store and Google Play.

With a few taps, book an On-Request ride in the app and our technology will secure your trip and York Region Transit (YRT) vehicle.

• Book a ride for right now or a day in advance on your smartphone 
• Request a pick-up or drop-off time
• Get picked up at your curb 
• Pay your YRT fare
• Get dropped off at your chosen location...

Holiday parades are back!

Holiday parades are coming back to York Region, in the Towns of East Gwillimbury, Newmarket, Georgina, Aurora, Whitchurch-Stouffville and Cities of Markham and Vaughan.

York Region will have a holiday-decorated Viva bus, snowplow, Toby the mini-bus and staff walking alongside in the parades.

We encourage you to come out with family and friends to enjoy the parades!
