Plan your whole trip, including On-Request with the Transit App!

Trip planning will be easier in January 2025! Soon you will be able to plan your entire trip, including the On-Request portions through the Transit App.
How will this new feature work?Put your starting address and destination in the Transit app and it will find the best route for you, using bus routes and On-Request services. If your trip includes On-Request, there is now a direct link in the Transit App that will take you to the YRT On-Request app to book your trip.

Debit and Credit will no longer be accepted at ticket vending machines

Ticket Vending Machines (TVM) allow travellers to purchase single fare tickets at terminals and vivastations throughout York Region. As of January 1, 2025, we will only accept exact cash payments at TVMs. Credit and debit cards will no longer be accepted as payment options at TVMs, however, you may continue to pay your fare using your credit or debit card at the PRESTO machines. York Region Transit E-Tickets Moving to PRESTO E-Tickets

On November 5, 2024,York Region Transit (YRT)e-tickets can be purchased through the PRESTO E-Tickets app. This allows travellers to purchase and use YRT e-tickets anywhere, anytime, through the convenience of their smartphones. The app is available in the App Store or Google Play.

Government of Canada announces funding for electric buses in York Region

We are pleased to announce that York Region Transit has received $76 million from Canada’s Zero Emission Transit Fund to help increase our electric bus fleet.
This funding, in addition to the $136 million contribution from the Canada Infrastructure Bank and $177 million investment from York Region, brings the total budget for the Canada Infrastructure Bank Zero-emission bus program to $389 million.
The funding will help support YRT’s plan to:

Wondering when your bus will arrive? Now you can receive next bus information through text message.
Simply text “YRT” and your four-digit bus stop number to 25370 (e.g., YRT ####). Real-time information for the next few buses due at your stop will be sent back to you. Remember to Include a space between YRT and your bus stop number.
