Frequently Asked Questions
Who provides the trip plan data for the real-time app? |
The trip plans created with the interactive map are provided by Google Transit. Although Google Transit uses data provided by YRT, you may receive different trip plan results than when using our trip planner. This is because Google uses different calculations for walking distances, travel times, transfers and destination points. We recommend using our trip planner for the most accurate information. |
What is Google Transit? |
Google Maps users can plan a trip with YRT using Google Transit. As a complementary product of YRT's trip planning tools, Google Transit combines YRT planning and scheduling data with Google Maps to create quick and detailed itineraries. Google Maps is available in 40 different languages, and is compatible with screen readers for the visually impaired. Although Google Transit uses data provided by YRT, you may receive different trip plan results than when using our trip planner. This is because Google uses different calculations for walking distances, travel times, transfers and destination points. YRT's trip planner allows you to search for trip plans with your address, intersection, bus stop number and by popular locations. Trip results display the most current schedules, fare information and any detours for your trip. YRT's planning and scheduling data is continuously updated while Google Transit pulls this data only periodically. |
Why do some buses disappear and reappear? |
Due to various technical reasons, buses may occasionally disappear off the map because they are unable to provide their current position. The buses will reappear when they are able to provide their position again. |
Why are there some routes without any buses showing? |
Some routes only operate during certain times of the day. If you click on any of the stops on the map, you will see the next scheduled arrival time(s) for that stop. |
How often does the real-time data refresh? |
The real-time data is refreshed approximately every 30 seconds. |
Why do multiple stops for the bus icon show arrival times as "Approaching"? |
If a bus is scheduled to be at a location in less than one minute it will be marked as "Approaching." Sometimes the bus will be scheduled to arrive at the next three stops in less than a minute so all of these stops will show as "Approaching." |
What information is used to populate upcoming arrival times for a given stop? |
Real-time information is used if available for a bus approaching that stop, otherwise schedules are used to determine the next time. These times are approximate. |
